Two-factor authentication is a simple security tool which most sites offer. It is a feature that enables you to do some sought of verification in order to login to your account. This feature can also be activated on Twitter. Twitter offers three methods to verify your identity - text message, authentication app, and security key. To enable this setting:
Step 1: Click on 'Settings and Privacy' in the side menu
Step 2: Click on 'Account' and then click on 'Security'
Step 3: Choose what method of verification suites you and enable it.

Use a strong and unique password

It is no news to you that for every of your account you should have a strong and unique password. It is advisable not to use common words, numbers, or patterns, as it can easily be guessed by hackers. Check out how you can create a strong password which you can easily remember.

Check your privacy settings

You should know that social media like Facebook and Twitter share some information about your online activity to business partners to show you personalized ads. Based on your settings, Twitter is able to collect data about you such as interests and topics, sites you visit and even places you visit. Twitter passes on your data to help serve targeted ads on your feed, and it also collects information about you when you visit a site that has an embedded tweet or Twitter share button. It's very easy to stop Twitter from sharing your information if you want to. Twitter privacy settings offer this option.
Step1: Tap your account picture in the top-left and go to Settings and privacy
Step2: Then tap 'Privacy and safety'
Step3: Scroll down and tap 'Personalization and data' at the bottom of the page. At the top is a toggle switch to disable all personalization and data settings.

If you want to see a detailed report of data twitter collects about you, you can do this through your settings also. Head to 'Account' in the settings menu, tap 'Your Twitter data'. Here, you can view all the information Twitter has about you. Tap on 'Interests and ads data' to see what data Twitter collects about you and how they use it to show ads.

Your privacy settings don't seem to be a big deal in the security of your account, however, it does help because data in which twitter uses for ads are not encrypted so are therefore not secure. One or two information about you can be a pathway to other information which could be a risk to your Twitter account.

Never give your username and password out to third parties

Third-party websites (especially those promising to get you, followers, make you money, or verify you), can save your login data when you input them. Always make sure you’re on twitter.com before you enter your login information.

Use the up-to-date twitter application or up-to-date browsers

Make sure your computer software, including your browser, is up-to-date with the most recent upgrades and anti-virus software. Browsers and application often update their security with new updates. Using older versions can put your account at risk.
