How to link your NIN with your Phone Number (MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9mobile)

Linking your SIM Card with your NIN

On the 15th of December 2020, The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) made a press release directing all mobile network operators to require ALL their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records, and to block users who fail to comply with the directive within two weeks (which ends on 30 December 2020), although the house of representatives has raised a motion seeking an extension of the date. If nothing is done concerning the deadline, it means that failure of the subscribers to register with NIN will lead to the blocking or disconnection of the line by the end of December 30.

However, linking your SIM card number with your NIN is an easy step which can be completed in few minutes using just your mobile phone. It is important, however, to note that before you can link your SIM to your NIN you must have fully registered and completed the data capturing process under the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in order to have your National Identification Number (NIN).

In case you cannot recall your NIN, you can retrieve it by simply dialling *346# on your mobile phone. The USSD code works for MTN and Airtel subscribers only, and the service attracts a ₦20 (twenty naira) fee only, which is deducted from your airtime balance.

For MTN users:

Dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit or, dial *785#YourNIN# from the phone number you wish to link. The number will be linked to your NIN automatically. Alternatively, you can visit www.mtnonline.com/nim/ using your phone or computer, complete the NIN linking form by entering your name, phone number, NIN, and email address, submit the form as soon as you’re done.

For Airtel users:

Simply dial *121# on the Airtel line you wish to link, Type 1 for 'NIN Capture' and send. Enter your 11-digit NIN and send, then wait for the message confirming your submission.

For Other Networks (9Mobile and Glo):

Presently, 9Mobile and Glo have not released any USSD codes or online means of linking your NIN to your phone number. Therefore, you can visit the nearest office of your service provider (Glo or 9mobile) to link your NIN to your phone number. You will require both your NIN and your SIM pack to complete the process at the office.
I'll keep you all posted immediately these networks respond to the issue.
